WA TECH COMPANY CONNECTING THE DOTS FOR THE GLOBAL RESOURCE SECTOR

A WA established global technology company is pioneering the way the resources sector
manages and visualises their operations.

The IMS (Integrated Management System) platform developed by FTP Solutions is an
end-to-end monitoring system that records and reports on data 24 hours a day in real time,
collated from a variety of third-party systems and presented through a simple and intuitive
interface.

Co-Founder and Director, Lachlan McMahon, says that the platform is helping companies
increase performance and production by giving them visibility of their assets and systems
across multiple sites.

“We are essentially giving mining operations the ability to see in the dark by providing them
access to data that’s previously been out of reach.”

“We take the overload of platforms and data that businesses are faced with, and bring them
together in a single pane-of-glass.”

Rio Tinto is one of the most recent conglomerates to onboard the platform.

Starting at its Marandoo site in the Pilbara during a Caterpillar AHS deployment, the company
was quickly on track to achieve a network availability average above 98%, leading to the
implementation of FTP’s IMS platform across all 12 of its iron ore mine sites.

Principal Advisor Site Communications at Rio Tinto, Chris Pennington, says implementing FTP’s
IMS platform across their mine sites has enabled the next level of proactive management of
critical mining communications networks.

“The linking of real time asset position, accurate radio link information and terrain models has
provided great immediate situational awareness for Technicians and Engineers,” he explains.
“The customisable dashboards, playback and heat mapping features, also provided invaluable
system performance trending capabilities.”

The platform is assisting resource companies around the globe to track and manage their data,
including, but not limited to, the monitoring of fuel usage, driver safety and vehicle health which
helps save millions by reducing risk and increasing productivity.

McMahon says it’s exciting to see a WA company spearheading this technology globally.
“You usually see this sort of innovation coming from offshore, so it’s promising to see industry
leaders such as Rio Tinto engaging local companies.”

“The mining industry is constantly seeking out new and innovative ways to improve productivity
and efficiency, which is exactly where IMS fits in.”

By taking the guesswork out of mine site operations, FTP Solutions is delivering greater
operational intelligence to miners and ensuring more informed decisions from technicians.
